二分心について

About Bicameralism

この写真のシリーズを「二分心」としたのは、

This series is titled “Bicameralism” because

私（島尾伸三）の心が、

my heart, as Shimao Shinzo,

小中学の時代に奄美大島で育ったがための

shaped by growing up in Amami Oshima during my early school years,

動物的感覚と、

carried a kind of animal intuition,

東京で暮らすようになって

Later I came to live in Tokyo.

50年以上にもなった為に

After more than fifty years there.

言葉で物事を考えるようになってしまい、

I came to think in words,

落ち着きません。

and there is no peace.

落ち着きの無さは

This restlessness

２つの心を持つ事に気付いたからです。

comes from the realization that I carry two minds.

言葉に支配されている為なのか、

Perhaps it’s because I’m ruled by words,

周囲を見回す時に、

When I look around me,

なんだか実像を見ていないような

as if I were not seeing the real itself,

寂しさがつきまとっています。

and a loneliness clings to me.

私は見上げた先に浮かぶ空と

I lift my eyes to the sky above,

湖面に映った空の２つを眺めていて、

and the sky mirrored on the lake—both held in my gaze.

いつだって。

Always.

どちらもが現実に思え、

Both seemed real,

つかみ所の無い感覚に生きてきたようです。

and I have lived within a sense of the elusive.

どうやら私は

It seems to me I needed

子どもの頃の自然の声を聞いていた感覚を取り戻す為に

to recover the sense I had as a child, hearing the voice of nature—

写真を必要としてきたようなのです。

and so I have needed photography.
